A garage sale will be beset with less problems and more profit if it is given the appropriate safety measures required for residents who want such an opportunity.

A successful garage sale is one that is well-attended and has aesthetically pleasing items that are for sale and which anyone would consider buying. So how should you conduct a garage sale and what should you do to make it a well attended one?

Follow the guidelines

Though these measures are done in specific cities in the country, these guidelines could work anywhere there are garage sales and people who want to go to them.
Though it is perfectly okay and legal to post a sign to indicate a particular garage sale, it would be best that signs be posted in proper places that will let others know where the garage sale will take place. Be aware that inappropriate places where garage sale signs are placed may prompt authorities to remove the sign or the Code Enforcement Officer could pay you a visit and advise you of the error you have committed.

Where to post garage sale signs

Signs informing everyone of a garage sale may be posted anywhere as long as they aren't on posts or a pole. This includes poles used for utility or traffic signs.

Garage sale sign posts shouldn't be placed on a fence or tree. Signs may also not be placed in public areas that are right-of-ways. These areas include medians that are part of streets.

Garage sale signs shouldn't be in any way posted on streets or sidewalks. Also, signs may not be posted on cars, trailers, trucks or any vehicles that are for personal use.

Believe it or not, garage sale signs shouldn't be posted on parks, paths of parks, open spaces, fields or trails and any city properties.

Try not to take a risk putting up signs as that may be removed later on. The best place to post garage sale signs is in yards or on your own property. However, if you are to place signs on other people's yards, ask their permission first.

Also, signs must have the specifics of the event such as when the garage sale will be, where, and what time. Failure to place these details may cause the sign to be removed.

All in all, a garage sale will be well attended if signs are placed in a correct and appropriate manner.
