Valentine's Day is all about romance, love and relationships. So if your relationship is close to the point that you are considering marriage, then engagement rings are probably on your list.

In the US a lady typically has more sway on the details and date of the marriage. But the man usually gets to choose when he will propose. Since that proposal usually happens with a piece of jewelry being offered, popping the question and giving engagement rings typically happen at the same time. And the guy in the relationship tends to get to choose the time and place for this event.

Why is Valentine's Day a popular day for engagements? Well, everyone expects romantic things around this time of year. Spring is just around the corner. Therefore, many people are thinking about romance and the most important relationships in their lives.

Getting engaged during a time when romance is the hot topic is very normal. Romance and Valentine's Day are talked about on the radio, on TV, and in casual conversations. Retailers tend to use romance in their marketing. So we are continually reminded of romance during the first two months of the year.

Valentine's Day is the first event after last years Christmas season where the focus is on giving gifts to people we love. What a great time to express your love for someone. All the world around you is giving off more and more romantic vibes and you can use this to your advantage.

It is easy to use Valentines Day to propose because everyone has love and relationships on their mind. You've probably talked about marriage. Maybe you have already talked to her about the style of ring she wants.

If you are thinking of asking her to marry you, then February is a great month. Asking before Valentine's Day may help surprise her. If you have picked out the perfect gift for Valentine's Day, then that may build some excitement and lead to asking on or after February 14th.

If that day passes and you were not able to get up the nerve, then it's acceptable and even endearing to admit that you thought so much about this event that you were nervous. Breaking the ice with an admission of nervousness may ease your tension. When you are a little more relaxed, that's a great time to ask that simple question.
