The basement transformation is in the final stages of completion. You find yourself looking at all the work you have done in the past few months. It has all been worth it.
With all the proud feelings you have, you should be feeling that feeling of completion but, incredibly, a little bit of the room is just not right. You have forgotten a part of it but, what?
That emotion you feel is a result of all the time and money you have invested in the transformation of your basement. It does not matter if the work was a do-it-yourself or a professional job, the final steps need to be completed to add that final change to the room. The very thing to give you the feeling of finality.
Most of the great things about the transformation are complete. The missing item is not to be lost. This list will help you find the item that is not finished yet.
1. Electricity and wiring
2. Water pipes
3. All wires for the speaker system
4. Drywall, mud, and paint color
5. Ceiling panels and paint
6. Brand new flooring
7. Finished baseboards, molding around windows, and brand new doors
8. Cabinetry and wet bar
9. Refrigerator, wine chiller, sink for wet bar
10. Fireplace, lighting
It all fits together nicely. The program was carefully executed and all the pieces tie in together with the right colors and decorations. The materials of the room itself all match perfectly. The brown in the wood adds a homey touch to the room. Then, without a seconds thought, you realize what it is you have neglected to do. The windows are as bare as the day you started this transformation.
Yuck - The shine coming off the metal around the windows hits you like a ton of bricks. Do not think for a moment that you are not glad those windows are there. You are very glad they allow any light into the gloomy room. Those windows are horrible.
These windows were really left out of the transformation because they are an outside issue. The wells of the windows are in need of being completed along with the rest of the room. It has become even more obvious to you that they are going to need a lot of TLC to make this room perfect.
Hiding the windows with a window treatment might work for a while but it is not the right thing to do because of the need for sunlight into the room. We must find a way to hide that metal sticking out all over the window but with what?
The metal can hold a coat of paint but that would be a time consuming project. You can use some form of built cover the hide the metal but this would make the space smaller and not allow anyone to use it as an emergency exit.
The problem has a resolution. There are slim decorative covers that attach to the metal of the window. They are made from a sturdy, waterproof, bendable plastic that will not change in any temperature. It goes inside of the window well and adheres to the metal.
As the covering is completed, the sunlight showers the room with amazing color. Because the covering is rounded out, the third dimensional effect it causes will be none like you has ever seen. At this moment, with the beautiful background, any décor you attempt in the rest of the room will not matter. Any way you would like to complete it will be an accent to the room. Be as creative as you feel and make this space as individual as you are.
These pictures come in many forms. You can choose from a woodsy setting, lakes, river, or mountains outside the glass. If you prefer, you can choose a golf motif. It might be a relaxing waterfall impression. You can always look out at the beach or a tropical paradise.
It does not matter what you have done in the past with the transformation of the room, this is the final element that ties it all together nicely. This beautiful covering for your window has brought all the items together in a joint effort. You have been looking for the finality.
Now, as you stand back and admire your basement, you know you are finally complete!
