Diabetes is a disease that strikes at the human body in many ways. First of all it appears in the patient because of the persons incapacity to keep a normal level of glucose in the blood. Glucose is the substance on witch the cells power them selves from; this level of glucose in the blood is kept at normal parameters by the secretion of insulin from the pancreas. The normal response of the pancreas would be to secret the insulin when the body experiences higher levels of glucose, like the time right after eating. Because of its inability to do so glucose starts building up in the blood being latterly expelled from the body through urine. Thus the term in more ancient times : sweet urine. Hyperglycemia is the medical term used to describe the lack of normal levels of insulin in the patients body. Being a chronic medical condition diabetes unfortunately last a life time.

The impact of diabetes on the human body can be very hard. Kidney failure and nerve damage are very common not to mention that u can even go blind because of the illness. The usual damage to blood vessels refers to the actual small vessels, also known as micro vascular disease. After prolonged damage done, strokes and different heart diseases are not uncommon, sometimes other large vessels also being affected pretty harsh. Almost 17 million people are affected by the disease only in the United States of America and an even more incredible fact is that almost 12 million also suffer from the illness but don't know about it. The amount of money used in treating and keeping the illness under control are huge compared to the costs of the same treatments for other diseases. Studies have shown that it is as much as 3 times more expensive to treat diabetes than any other illness.

It has been found out that after heart disease and cancer, diabetes is the next major thing responsible for death in the United States of America .

The cause of the disease is the actual incapacity of the pancreas to create the needed amount of insulin necessary for the body to function normally. Sometimes muscle cells and also liver cells lose the ability to properly use the insulin, and although it is produced at a hyer level things don't tend to change. Levels of glucose in the blood stream will gradually lid to hyperglycemia.

People should always try their best to escape the ravaging problems of this terrible disease.
