Fitness, Hair Split Ends - Get Rid Of Split Ends
Split end are the result of chemical products such as hair color, relaxers etc. The best way to get rid of spilt ends is to cut off hair. Washing your hair, squeeze the water out and absorb the rest with a thick towel. Never use a dryer too near the hair, or set it on too high a temperature. Keep brushing to a minimum since it promotes breakage. Brushing wet hair is a definite no-no; use a wide-toothed comb when hair is wet. Minimize the use of heated appliances. Try conditioners and serums that are designed to seal split ends temporarily and give resistance to further splitting. Avoid vent brushes with plastic bristles. These can cause further damage by ripping through the hair. Protect hair when heat-styling. Apply a leave-in conditioner. Wear a hat to minimize sun damage.
Causes of Split Ends
There are different causes for split ends. Split ends occur when the protective cuticle is destroyed at the end of the hair. Split ends will happen to almost anyone. Split Ends are more likely to develop in brittle or dry hair. Typical causes of split ends damage include vigorous brushing, brushing hair when it is still wet, coloring and perming which make hair weak, and heat appliances. There are other causes for split ends beside some of the main ones mentioned above. Other causes could be excessive tangling, improper application or removal of hair extensions, headgear that snaps or rips delicate strands or even scratchy bedclothes, fingers or hands.
Removing Splits
The only way to effectively remove splits is through regular hair trims. While some conditioners and other products claim to cure split hairs, they actually only bind the hair together temporarily. While this may be suitable for a short-term fix, eliminating the damage is the only lasting solution. Dry or naturally brittle hair is more prone to developing splits, but once they are trimmed away the hair can continue to grow naturally. Trims should be done at least one-half inch above the split to reduce the chances of additional unraveling, and to keep splits from recurring, regular trims are recommended every 4-6 weeks.
You can follow some routine care at home to prevent the hair from damage.
