Insulin: Could This Be The Answer To Weight Control?

So heres the skinny on fat...(pun intended)

Have you ever noticed that the diet and weight loss advertisements are at record highs in the beginning of each New Year? Every channel too...

Nutri-System this, LA Diet that, this fat burner for this, Hoodia that...

...You get the drift.

And I love this one: "The Man Diet." They even hit you with a real attention grabbing question like: "Guys, has your sex life suffered?"

If that wont grab a viewers attention I don't know what will. Kudos to the marketing people but I'm going to cut through all the hype, like I usually do (just a small pat on the back there, sorry)...

Dan Marino, the lead Nutri System spokesperson, is probably one of my all time favorite NFL Football figures, but anyways...

Well, one thing they have right is "low glycemic" index foods are best for weight control. But buried within all the hype and the multi-million dollar marketing campaigns comes...

...A dose of reality.

Its really all about 'Insulin.'

Thats right. Heres the deal...

Insulin is a hormone in your body that regulates carbohydrates and is directly tied to fat metabolism. Insulin was actually the first hormone ever detected in the human body in the late 1920's.

Carbohydrates (or sugars) are absorbed from the intestines into the bloodstream after a meal. Insulin is then secreted by the pancreas in response to this detected increase in blood sugar in your body.

High blood sugar levels are not good and cause a whole host of health issues from obesity to diabetes...

Get your Insulin and your blood sugar levels under control and you arein the 'drivers seat,' so to speak, essentially controlling your body weight and your energy levels...

How do you do that?

...Great question.

Here are the 2 BEST TIPS for controlling your Insulin and blood sugar levels AND losing excess weight and keeping it off in 2007 and beyond.

1. Avoid foods that are quickly digested.

When I say quickly digested I primarily mean foods that contain sugar or flour such as baked goods, pastas and most (not all) breads.

Foods that contain these ingredients are quickly digested which in turn, causes your blood sugar to rise rather quickly.

When this happens, it stimulates: You guessed it...

...The release of Insulin, which then signals your body to stop burning and start storing: FAT.

2. Reduce the amount of carbohydrates you consume gradually as the day goes on.

Kind of a no brainer here. Most people know this already though, right?

But how many people are doing it? And how often? I don't mean to sound harsh but this is critical, life changing stuff.

Carbohydrates, as well all know, provide your body with much needed energy throughout your day.

Its no secret that you will need less energy as the day goes on. Its also a scientific fact that your body's ability to metabolize carbohydrates drops as the day goes on, so more carbs end up getting stored as: FAT.

So, eat more carbs for breakfast. More than at any point throughout the day.

Eat a bit more for lunch.

And taper off your carb intake to a small amount or no amount by dinner and for a late night snack.

Its so simple its almost unbelievable. The diet industry doesn't want you to know this though...No revenue in it for them. Most people really over complicate the whole weight loss and fat loss thing.

Keep it simple. Simple is always is best. And VERY sustainable.

The Solution:

Cut back or eliminate INSULIN spiking foods - baked goods, most breads, and pastas.

Instead, look to replace bread and pasta with beans or lentils. The fiber contained in beans and lentils will actually slow the absorption of sugar into your blood stream helping to prevent an insulin surge that can turn excess sugar into...FAT.

Even better news: The type of fiber (soluble fiber) contained in beans and lentils "causes gut bacteria to metabolize the fats in your diet down to short chain fatty acids, further inhibiting insulin secretion," reports Robert Lusting, MD and endocrinologist at the University of California, San Francisco Children's Hospital not long ago.

Bread is almost unavoidable these days so in your quest, look for flour free bread, anything 100% whole wheat, whole grain or multi-grain.

Focus in on eating a carb rich meal for breakfast, moderate carbs for lunch and no carbs or low for dinner. Give this method a shot for a few days and watch the results...

...You wil have more energy, you will feel more alert, and you will potentially drop some excess body weight rather quickly. And...

A virtually unknown tip: Use Cinnamon.

Thats right.

Cinnamon actually stimulates insulin receptors in your body and helps normalize blood sugar levels. Studies show that as little as a half a teaspoon per day of cinnamon actually reduces blood sugar levels in people with adult onset diabetes. And 1 gram per day, which is only a half a teaspoon, causes a 20% drop in blood sugar levels, reduces cholesterol AND inflammation.

This is very, very impressive in my opinion. Many people do not know this.

But now you do.

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, world famous anti-aging Doctor and best selling author has been reporting for years that one of the keys to stopping the signs of aging on the face and keeping a healthy body weight is the regulation of blood sugar.

And Insulin, the key, as I mentioned earlier...

Get in the drivers seat and control your weight this year.
