The human body is made up of around 70% water and so drinking water for health is essential our over-all well-being.  Water transports nutrients and oxygen around the body, helps to get rid of waste and helps regulate body temperature.

One of the easiest ways to calculate how much water your body needs each day is to divide your body weight in half, which will give you an estimation of your recommended daily intake of water in ounces. For instance, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should aim to drink at least 75 ounces of water.

If you are active, you should drink an extra 8 ounce glass per 20 minutes of exercise as the body will expel extra water through perspiration in an attempt to cool your body down. It is also recommenced to drink an extra glass per hour if you are traveling by plane, and a glass of water per glass of alcohol of you are drinking. This will help keep your body hydrated, dilute the alcohol in your system and make the next day much more feasible. So drinking water for health will not only keep your body happy but your sanity as well.

How Can We Get Enough?

Drinking water for health is about thinking ahead. It is a good idea to carry a bottle of water with you everywhere you go, a trend that has picked up over the past few years. Or try to drink a glass of water every two hours, to keep you in the habit of drinking water regularly. This is important as many people leave drinking water until they feel thirsty, which means that your body is already dehydrated. Other signs of dehydration also include chronic pains in the joints and muscles, lower back pain, headache or constipation.

The Urine Check!

To see if you're getting enough water, do a quick urine check when you go to the bathroom. If your urine is very dark yellow with a strong odor, then you are not drinking enough. The only time your urine should look dark in color is first thing in the morning, If however, your urine in pale yellow in color, then you are getting enough water. Drinking water for health should be a habit we should all try to get into, as it vital for our over-all well-being.
