The symptoms of cold sores are:

1. The first symptom to look for is tingling. A tingling sensation occurs the first day. This stage involves burning, itching, tingling sensation underneath your skin. It occurs usually on your mouth, nose, or chin. Sometimes, it can occur inside your mouth.

2. Another symptom of cold sores is blistering and swelling. This happens after about two to three days of feeling the tingling sensation. You may notice blisters starting to appear around your lips, mouth, or nearby areas.

3. The next symptom of cold sores after the swelling stage is the weeping stage. The blister will ulcerate, open, and reveal a reddish area. This is probably the most painful symtpom. It's also the most contagious stage.

4. Another symptom of cold sores after the weeping stage is the crusting stage. This happens between day 5 to 8. Your blisters will eventually dry up and a yellowish or browish crust will form.

5. The fifth symptom of cold sores is the healing stage. The healing process happens within 10 to 13 days.
