Dry skin is sometimes normal and not oily, but sometimes can be fine and fragile. A recent international inquiry has shown that one of the main reasons for dry skin is impairment to the protective outer layer on your skin.

Using the right dry skin soap can benefit your skin tremendously. Check out these tips on how to select and choose the right soap for your dry skin. The following is a list of the main categories of soaps:

Traditional Soap

Traditional soaps are very harsh on your face, and can cause dry and cracked skin. Made up of ingredients consisting of animal and vegetable fats, most traditional soaps considered "mild" have a pH of around 9, which can be too acidic for our skin.

Superfatted Soaps

This type of soap is suited for the face and body and leaves behind an oily residue after using it. The ingredients added to this soap include cocoa butter, lanolin, cold cream and other fats. Because it lacks moisturizing properties, this soap is not ideal for dry skin as well.

Antibacterial Soaps

Various studies suggest that antibacterial soaps can be damaging to our skin. In fact, skin experts have claimed that usage of antibacterial soaps may lead to problems like super bugs, dry skin, and hand eczema. However, these soaps are effective agents against germs and helps to remove any bacteria present in our skin.

Transparent Soaps

Touted as the best type of soap for people with dry skin or sensitive skin, these soaps are manufactured with ingredients like fats and glycerin. The anhydrous soap content of transparent soaps is usually well below fifty percent.

Medicated Soaps

For more severe cases of dry skin, specially formulated soaps may be recommended by your dermatologist. Usually, such soaps are only available under prescription and the prices may be higher compared to other types of soaps.
