A research label for a group of monks in an album Gregorian ended after a monastery in Austria put out a YouTube video.

Universal Music, home of Eminem and Amy Winehouse, sent out the advertisements for religious publications about "the monks, the men from the canvas and sacred singers". Employers were sent hundreds of demos and most of them were impressed by the clip of the Holy Cross Monastery. An album for its worldwide release is slated in the next month.

The Cistercian monastery, located in the woods in Vienna, is the home to 80 monks and dates back to 1133. The Gregorian chant, which began right at the beginning of the Middle Age, gained a new audience through "Enigma" which was a recording artist success in the 1990s.

"Übererregt"

The search for the singing monks began in February.
Universal A & R executive Tom Lewis told the BBC News website that he was "blown" by the quality of the monks' singing talent. "These guys were seen on the competition by one of his friends in London and they have a connection to monastic singing as seen on YouTube," he said.

"It was beautiful, beautiful music, and they are using the very latest equipment in relation to the statement of them not being made available for their music to be heard.

"They're beautiful, they are very passionate about their music, and they are very pleased to have this opportunity," said Lewis.

"You have the impression that there is an opportunity for this group and their type of music to earn a recording artist contract. This is obviously so special for them to be heard."

In large part to monastery Universal staff of monks, the monastery begins to travel at the beginning of the month of April for the recording of the album. Father Karl of The Monastery says that the album has typically 10 to 12 singers becoming recording artists.

"It's an experience, because I do not think we chose it. It was just for fun that we have them featured on the internet."

"It's a good thing, because the Gregorian is part of spirituality and of life."

He said he thought the monks have a "very good health and prosperous monastery," and added that they "have shown the whole world that they can be recording artists too."

"All profits will be included in the training of the Cistercian monks," he added. Universal Records plans to release the international album later in the year.
