Computers, Steelseries Siberia Neckband

A first for the country, Steelseries have got some pretty wicked gear. This is very evident from the Siberia Neckband which was tested on almost everything from Dragonforce albums (thereby terrifying everyone in the office, these babies are loud) to Audiosurf and Half Life 2. In fact, during the Half Life test, we clean forgot we were in the office or that we were wearing a headset. The level of game immersion this unit brought on was very admirable and the sound reproduction is brilliant. Hearing new parts of old special effects is a novel experience.

The whole unit is compact and automatically retracts on its band to clamp itself onto your head. There is no feeling of being squeezed and it can be worn for hours at a time. However, you will be unable to hear anything while they are working as all other noise is blocked out when there is sound running through it. They are sturdy enough to be stepped on (and possibly run over by a car) but we were not about to test that.

The shape of the unit does make first-time users look like a bit of a tool though (Princess Leia from Star Wars) but any grins from your mates will die once you zone into the death match with the help of the headset and that grim-looking face appears as your body-count rises steadily.

The only downside is the price. Currently there is a very limited supply in the country (driving price up) and the Steelseries range has always been a little pricy to begin with. The quality of the unit we tested makes it worth the price tag for a serious gamer though. The entire product range has its good points and the Siberia Neckband is no different.

So if you take you gaming seriously and are in need of some serious kit for the next LAN (where the initial reaction will be Steel-what?), we say, go on out and grab one of these. You will not be sorry.
