Based in San Diego, California --The San Diego Padres is a Major League Baseball team founded in 1969 playing in the National League Western Division. They got the name of their team from the Pacific Coast League team that arrived in San Diego in the year 1936. The San Diego Padres became a member of Major League Baseball in 1969, as part of the four latest expansion teams. The original owner of the team was C. Important moment and accomplishments:

The club set a new high with 73 wins in the year 1976 but fell into fifth place. In 1978, San Diego picked up another first by having an 84-78 score. That was the only time in ten seasons that the team finished with a winning percentage above .500 in a single season. The team suffered another losing season in 1979 with a score of 68-93 record.

Ray Kroc died of heart disease on January 14, 1984. His third wife, Joan B. Kroc, took over the ownership of the team. In 1984, The Padres won the National League West championship, finishing with a 92-70 record.
