Antidepressants are the medicines used for relieving the depression in human beings. They are nothing but some kinds of drugs. Depression that is observed in human beings is of two types.

Depression is of two types namely the clinical depression and the normal depression. Out of these the clinical type of depression is much serious than the normal one. In case of clinical depression there are a number of antidepressants that are suggested by the doctors.

The one is the normal depression that is observed in everyday life due to occurrence of some wrong things in life. That is just for the time being and later we forget it. Secondly the other is the clinical depression. This is the actual depression where one has to consult a doctor. There is much of a difference between the normal depression and the clinical depression.

The symptoms also come out in the social life by showing change in behavior of the person. The use of antidepressants is not recent; they are being used long days back from the 1950's. From that time onwards they are used by people to come out of depression.

Today it is observed that there are a number of doctors that directly prescribe the antidepressants. There are a number of reasons for depression to occur. They are also of two types namely the Physiological causes and the sociopsychological causes. Different reasons have different treatment types.

Depression is mainly related to the neurotransmitters from the brain. When these neurotransmitters do not work properly or if the chemical activity of these transmitters is reduced the person feels depressed. The main function of the neurotransmitters is to pass the signal from one cell to the other. The antidepressants work on the functioning of these transmitters so that one can easily come out of depression.
