Originally blogs started out as personal soap opera boxes for people to express their views. Because of this, in the past blogging was usually associated with procrastination. But now blogs are taking over the internet and there being used for anything that you can imagine. And with the advance in technology that the internet as undergone you can now create video blogs, so blogs are no longer just long speeches and blurbs.

Professionals are now using blogs to get important information out to the public, and almost every major company is using blogs to promote there products and services. Everywhere you look on the internet somebody has a blog.

The reason blogs have become so popular is because there free and easy to setup. So unlike a traditional websites users don't have to pay for hosting or know anything about HTML or fancy website creation. They can just sign-up for a blog and get started. This has enabled everybody to have there own internet outlet to express their views and promote products.

Just recently people have begun using blogs to increase there website traffic and search engine ranking. Because search engines "love" new content, if you install a blog on your website every time you update your blog, search engines will come and index your website and this will help to increase your search engine ranking. And the higher up you are in search engines the more organic traffic you get.

Blogs also allow you to draw traffic from social networking sites. And because there free you can start as many as you want and use them to promote your products and services anyway that you like. You can even have several similar blogs and use them all to drive traffic to your website.
