Broadband; are you Missing Out?
It may come as quite a shock to hear that only a third of Europeans have a broadband connection in their home; well that's according to a new report from the European Commission (EC).
It was also found that out of the 27,000 households surveyed, even less of them have fixed phone lines, which is likely to be due to the growing popularity of Internet telephony services such as Skype and Gizmo.
For many, they would simply be lost if it wasn't for their broadband internet connection.
So, what's all the fuss about and what are you missing?
With the launch of ITV and BBC's streaming services within the next few months, people will soon be able to watch their favourite television shows online, see alternative endings and special behind the scenes exclusives. Try all of this on an old-fashioned dialup connection and you may be waiting quite sometime before a picture starts to appear.
Another popular provider of these types of services is Apple, who is well known for breaking a whole new market with its iTunes and iPod products. By simply going online and paying as little as 97p, you can download your favourite song or album within a matter of minutes (dependent on the speed of your connection).
It's not just the streaming and downloading of videos where people are missing out on but the speed and ease of surfing the internet without the dropping of your connection and delay when loading pages that some users can experience with when on dialup.
With the availability of cheap broadband connections, it's a wonder why people are still waiting to switch.
