Perhaps you have some small lines around your eyes and the creases of your mouth that you wish to get rid of. Or maybe you have a more serious need for skin treatment like sun damage or a tattoo removal. What ever your need, there are several options to choose from but not every surgeon will do the best job.

When choosing the skin and hair specialist you are going to trust with your body, for your own safety there are some things you must make sure of when you are looking around.

State Licensing

Before you agree to have treatment done, make sure the center is licensed within the state the center is operating in. You can also find out this information by checking with the state board of medicine to see if the center is licensed by the state.

Training

How long was it that the medical director and certified technicians had proper training? Is the staff committed to learning new procedures and certification of new equipment as well as treatments? What is each person’s certification background including where they graduated from laser hair and skin school?

Medical Director/Certified Staff

Is the center operating under the license of a medical director? A medical director with the appropriate credentials, such as a 4-year medical degree should be involved. A medical director of the center is ultimately the person responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the patients under care in the facility. What about the staff? Are they all trained and certified? How long have they all been practicing? Knowing everyone’s credentials will put you at ease.

Malpractice History/Coverage

By simply checking the internet or making a trip to the courthouse, anyone can look up a physician’s malpractice history if there is one. The center you are looking to have treatment done should be able to tell you the malpractice insurance they have.

Treatments Available

Besides knowing all of the skin and hair treatments and procedures that are possible through the center, what is their opinion about alternatives? Once you go through consultation, a trained and licensed practitioner should be able to give you several recommended options, not just the most radical and expensive procedure.

Referrals/Internet Comments

Perhaps the most important of all is a company’s reputation. Ask around, look up reviews and opinions online. Are people happy with the price, the procedure and customer service?

Researching treatment centers as well as alternatives will help you avoid an emotional, costly and horrifying plastic surgery disaster. Doing your homework ahead of time, could save your life in the future.
