WHAT IS IT?

The self-portrait oil painting

The majority of us have a picture or two hanging on our walls throughout our home. Some snapshot while others are professional quality prints. There is a certain pride that is attached to the family photo that can't be matched by any other work of art, unless you have yet to have a quality family oil painted completed.

Then you look at the fad this has become in Hollywood. Rich celebrities when having to choose gifts for other rich celebrities were struggling to come up with anything new as Britney already had everything or Brad was getting tired of the same old stuff each year. Suddenly one smart person, who we unfortunately are not at liberty to reveal came up with the oil painted portrait. The rest as they say is history.

Moreover it started becoming a regular gift as a different painting of a different situation, pose, photo or event each year meant that this was the gift that not only pleased the eye and lasted a lifetime but was unique every year. As one movie star was heard to remark, 'your home is not complete until you have yourself on your wall!'.

But first here are some things to think about when it comes to self portraits. First thing is the photo you are choosing. Some great ideas for painted portraits are wedding photos, your latest family photos, senior pictures or if you have great snapshots. Some of the best snapshots are the life lived photos, like kids playing, sharing, hugging, without the knowledge of the parent having a camera on hand. Just be sure if you are using a snapshot that the picture is without scratches or blemishes so you will have a top quality painting to cherish.

Now always striving to out do each other, people like George, Matt and Julia would search out to latest and greatest artist and spend tens of thousands of dollars to create the best artwork. And so talented were these artists and such lengths these people were willing to go through that you had paintings done of Will climbing the Pyramids of Egypt smoking a cigarette or Jennifer eating a taco while boarding Apollo 11 on her way to the moon. They had to keep everythign a BIG SECRET too because they would others to get wind of what they were planning nor did they want the general public to create knock offs of their unique gift.

The next thing that must be addressed is the size you would like your painting to be. This can be discussed with the artist who will be painting your masterpiece. As well as the material used to create your panting, such as lighting, the canvas, brushes and the paint to be used. Be sure to also obtain information from the artist on the care for your painting once you have the painting in your possession. It should also be kept in mind, depending on the paint used, that it can take up to three weeks, and sometimes longer for the paint to dry. The artist you are working with will be able to let you know how long the paint will dry and the care of the painting once it is dry.

However this SECRET that they were and still are trying to be kept hidden has been revealed by us for the first time today. Then what is more, that suddenly these prize possessions are becoming the target of every paparazzi photographer around the world just hoping to get a glimpse of the paintings so they can sell it to magazines and tabloids where journalists and gossip columnists the world over will speculate about the truth and story behind these paintings.

The only other thing that will need to be addressed is the perfect place to hang your painting which should also be brought up with your artist. There are some paints that can fade very quickly if placed in a spot that gets direct sunlight. Whether you use this masterpiece to accent your home, or you plan to purchase one as a gift or if this is going to be done for you, or your close loved one, for a friend, or relative. There will not be any more treasured picture in your home than the oil painted self-portrait.
