Different types of CHI straightener use different kinds of technology. The difference lies in the variety of the material used in the hair iron plate. Read more for a quick peek into the technologies used in the Farouk CHI iron.
Hair straightening involves the breaking of hydrogen bonds. These hydrogen bonds are found in the inner part of the hair strand. They are the ones which cause bending and curling of the hair. Breaking these bonds stretch the hair strands and prevents them from bending again. When you use the CHI straightener, you are effectively breaking down the hydrogen bonds that cause your hair to wave or curl.
Ceramic is the most widely used material for the hair iron plates. This material is a nonmetallic and inorganic substance. Its raw form is the clay used in pottery. The clay is baked in an oven to form the ceramic. This semi-conductor is known in the industry for its ability to maintain the heat temperature produced when using the CHI hair iron. It also heats up fast and not allowing moisture to disturb the straightening process. Moisture, by the way, makes hair go back to its natural curly form. That is why it should not be allowed to seep into the hair during the process.
Tourmaline is another crystalline material used as hair iron plates. Like ceramic, it heats up fast and evenly distributes hair. When heated up, the charges of the tourmaline plates become negative. These negative charges that are released dry up the hair and break the hydrogen bonds. Another result of the emission of negative charges is the sealing in of the color in the hair and the cuticles, making it look shinier. Static charges in the hair are also eliminated thus lessening the tangles and frizz.
Metal technology uses titanium or aluminum plates sometimes with combination of ceramic coating. The same process of emitting negative charges and breaking hydrogen bonds happen. The disadvantage with these kinds of plates is that metal is a good conductor of heat. So these kinds of hair irons heat up easily and continue to do so. Thus the temperature is not well regulated through out the process.
Nanotechnology is the newest and most expensive kind used in hair irons today. Aside from breaking the hydrogen bonds in the hair, this technology eliminates microscopic germs that may be present in the hair, as well as in the tools used during the straightening process. This allows sterilization within the hair iron itself, making the whole process hygienic.
The results, as well as your safety and the sustainability of the process, often vary with the kind of technology that your CHI straightener uses, so it is best to be familiar with how your hair iron works.
