This success quote comes from Bob Proctor, one of the most influential personal growth teachers around today.
It is a fundamental truth that is very hard to believe. After all aren't all your problems caused by circumstances, other people and unforeseen events? If none of those things happened, surely you wouldn't have any problems. Life would go just as you planned it…
This is wrong on several levels.
Expect the unexpected
At the very least, the world is fundamentally a chaotic place. It is a vast collection of people and things all linked together as one complex whole. Modern science tells us that a complex system like the world will be fundamentally unpredictable. The unpredictability of life is what makes it exciting.
So at the first level if you are railing against the unpredictable nature of life, you are mistaken. Rather you should accept it in all its glory and excitement and prepare to seize the opportunities instead of complaining about the unexpected. This is the first way that you are a problem to yourself.
The world is as you make it
It is widely understood that you can achieve anything that you want provided that you firmly believe in it and focus your intention on it.
The challenge for all of us, you included, is first of all developing an unshakeable belief that you can really achieve what you most desire. You, like some many other people have been programmed throughout your life and especially in your childhood with numerous deep seated beliefs. The sum total of these beliefs have got you where you are today.
Making a major change is very likely to conflict with one or more of your deeply held limiting beliefs. You have to replace those limiting statements with the belief you can have what you most desire.
The second problem is focussing enough of your intention. Your mind is constantly thinking - but what is it thinking about. What percentage of your time are you spending focussing on your success and what percentage on how hard it's going to be to be successful or even how you're going to fail. You need to make sure you're spending as much time as possible focussed on success.
What you think you see is not real
You look at the world through the filter of your mind. You take in information through your senses and you simplify it, distort it, add in your own beliefs and pre-suppositions and eventually you form ideas about what you've just experienced. This complex process means that two people looking at exactly the same thing can come to two completely different conclusions.
But which one is right? The answer is neither and both. Reality is far more complex than even the most intelligent human being can fully understand, however within our own worlds we are all correct.
The problem is that what you perceive may omit certain important details that can help you and may include other details that will make things much worse for you. You are your own worst enemy. The only solution you have is to learn to control your own mind and be aware of it's shortcomings. That way you improve your chances of success.
Bob Proctor's success quote says that you are the cause of and the only solution for all your problems. You've seen three different ways this can be true - you've got to expect the unexpected, learn to focus on what you want and learn to control your own mind. If you don't do these three things then you are your own worst enemy. If you do you will make your own success.
