Single working parents, in the end, have 'developed flexibility, interpersonal techniques, inner resources, control of time, and leadership to manage a household, hold a job, and still have time for a life...' (Atlas, 1984). All of these skills will come in handy for years to come. Single parents have many opportunities and organizations they can turn to for help and assistance in their lives. Whether they are newly single or have been for a while, support groups or systems are the best way to cope with the absence of a spouse or partner. Single parents can often feel overwhelmed by the responsibility they now hold as the sole bread winner, disciplinarian, chauffer, tutor, etc. Friends, family, counseling services, and many other support groups are available for single parents to help ease the stresses that come along with raising a family on their own. Christians have the added assurance that God is with them in all of their suffering and that He will guide them through. Deuteronomy 31:8 (New International Version) says, 'The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged'. The Bible is filled with the promises of God and how he will never leave his people without helping them through. Single parents may feel abandoned, hopeless, and brokenhearted but the Bible says, in Psalm 147:3 'The Lord heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds' (New International Version). Therefore, the best support system is our Lord and Savior.
