Volkswagen cars are setting their debut on April 20 to 28 at Shanghai. These new cars include the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion, Volkswagen Passat and the Volkswagen Magotan. They have power train technologies and Volkswagen exhaust system that make a powerful contribution toward setting benchmarks when it comes to environmental protection. The group has targeted a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of the cars it offers by the year 2010. In a press conference at the Auto Shanghai 2007, Volkswagen Chairman Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg will explain the brand's strong environmental commitment when it comes to the VW exhaust system, which is responsible for the emission of gasses used by the car.

As one of the debutant this month, the Volkswagen Magotan is a sedan globally successful under the name Volkswagen Passat. Manufactured in China, The Magotan has economical and low-emission engines. Though the model concept was developed in Germany, right from the start, the intention was to have this Volkswagen complete all requirements of the Chinese market and be relevant to the tastes of contemporary Chinese folks. It is being introduced this spring.

The Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion has a 59 kW / 80 PS strength that commends itself for introduction in China as the most economical five-seater in the world par excellence with an average consumption of 3.9 liters per 100 kilometers and CO2 emissions of just 102 g/km. However, for its performance to be at par with others, there must be is a significant improvement in the quality of diesel fuel offered there. In other words, the gas emission through its VW exhaust will depend on the quality of diesel fuel used.

For the first time, a Volkswagen fuel is also being introduced in China. Another highlight in the area of environmentally-friendly technologies is the Volkswagen Touran EcoFuel (80 kW / 109 PS). The use of natural gas as fuel reduces practically all harmful exhaust components. This is indeed very environmentally-friendly because aside from the 20 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, about 80 percent less carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxide (NOX) is produced, and emissions of methane-containing hydrocarbons (HC) are also lowered by about 70 percent.

The automaker is also taking advantage of China's high technology in the area of gasoline engines. The best example is the new 1.8 TFSI with 118 kW / 160 PS. The engine is as dynamic as it is being economical. The 1.8 TFSI is built for Asia in the new Chinese plant at Dalian, which is also pioneering in the area of environmental protection and awareness.
