Bedwetting can cause years of suffering for children and their parents alike. Unfortunately, most of them don't know what the real problem is. In order to resolve bedwetting issues once and for all, it's important to find the underlying causes.
For example, most people in the Western world, automatically go for bedwetting alarms. Of course, there is nothing wrong with them, in fact, they actually do help. But simply treating the symptom won't alleviate the root cause of bedwetting.
For one thing, allergies can cause bedwetting. Citrus fruits and spicy foods do not, unless your child is allergic to either of them. Perhaps it would be advisable to have your child tested for allergies, and this could actually eliminate the night time enuresis.
Dairy products can often be the culprit, especially with children who are sensitive to lactose. It is therefore wise to eliminate the consumption of dairy products, including milk, after a certain time. In addition to that, you should prohibit your child from consuming chocolate close to bedtime or in the evening. Chocolate contains caffeine, and caffeine is a diruetic.
Food additives can also cause bedwetting in children. Although they are present in almost everything we eat, trying to eat healthier is advisable. That puts the onus on the parents to cook meals from scratch rather than to use prepackaged or otherwise processed foods. Still, these additives can even be found in bread, but at least if you reduce them it might help.
Furthermore, your child's sleeping pattern may really be the underlying problem. Heavy sleepers are usually the ones that are wetting the bed. But, nighttime bedwetting can also be linked to medical conditions such as type 1 diabetes. That is why it is important that you have your child examined by the pediatrician. If you have tried all of the common-sense tactics to control your child's bedwetting, isn't it time to try the alternatives. Your answer to your problems may lie in there.
