Interior design didn't start with the first lady. Since the dawn of mankind and availability of designer colors, people have been fascinated with home decoration better known ad interior design. If our homes are dark and dingy, static and uninteresting, or cluttered and unfinished, we increase our chances of becoming depressed.
A pessimistic sense of inadequacy and a despondent lack of activity characterize depression. So if your home does not allow for adequate living and activity, it will not only affect your mental and emotional state, your physical health is at risk too. How? Depression is one of the leading causes of exhaustion, and physical pains without a physical cause, like back pain.
You might think this is a stretch, but it's actually a factual statement backed by research. Is it far-fetched to claim that an unfinished home could be the root of all that is bleak and bleary?
Well take the time to think of the happiest and healthiest person that you know. Then think about he environment that he or she lives in. Chances are the environment is bright, clean, organized, decorative, and it essentially expresses the way that your friend feels about him self or herself. This is what interior design is for really and you can manipulate it in such a way that it benefits you mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Most people associate design elements and principles with fine art however it's the design in which these components are arranged that dictate how our bodies react to them. Space for example, gives a sense of freedom and virtual permission to move about. Without enough of it, we feel confined and limited in what can and can not do.
Lighting, as another example, gives a sense of clarity and honesty - leaving nothing in the dark or to guess about.
Color has always been associated with mood and the more colors there are in an environment, the more expressive it is. Multiple colors seemingly invite different opinions and give the impression that diversity is welcome. When these colors are harmoniously blended, we're assured our differences contribute the whole scope of things.
Comfortable furniture speaks to us in a way as if to say, 'Stay a while,' while good ventilation suggests, 'You can breath easy here - relax.'
