The ‘Econormist' is the E2 club's effort to make economics more ‘user friendly'. Presented in an informative and powerful blend of the printed word (in the form of the magazine) and the audio visual format (the documentary that comes along with the magazine), it aims at bringing economics concepts mainstream and fostering understanding of the application of this enigmatic discipline.

Written in an easy format and powered by research done exclusively by IIPM students, the magazine addresses contemporary issues in an economic light. As the editorial team's motto goes, they were reporting ‘from the edge of the economic universe'.

'What do they know of cricket who only cricket know?' wrote C L R James in his book 'Beyond a Boundary'. I would like to paraphrase the same in reference to economics 'What do they know of economics who only economics know?' It's not often that one gets to live what J R R Tolkien had said about his epic 'Lord of The Rings'--The tale grew in its telling. The idea of an economics magazine was sparked off by a casual proposition made during a presentation by a few students of mine. I have always viewed economics as a discipline that's so overwhelmingly associated with our lives, that we have no right to keep it complicated. Hence, we mooted the idea of a publication that can blow the cobwebs ignorance and intimidation surrounding the field. This magazine that you hold in your hands, dear reader wants you to get you a friendly introduction to economics while, as our tag line says, 'taking it easy'. The idea grew to include a documentary on the theme of the cover story as well, since we realised that the response to audio visual stimuli is the highest. We want our readers to read, watch and critically think. Because economics should no longer remain the economist's domain. It shall become the econormist's domain. Econormist--The one, who sets, defines and discovers new frontiers for the field.

In this inaugural issue, we address a very intriguing issue through our cover story. It seems as if economics has been almost unfair to the airline industry. Air travel has dramatically changed the worlds but its economic fortunes have plummeted south with the world being replete with stories of failed and bankrupt airlines. We try to answer why and suggest how the blossoming India n aviation story could be nipped in the bud if historical lessons learnt are ignored.

So go ahead and indulge yourself... in some serious thinking while 'taking it easy'
