Gmat Preparation: Managing The Difficult Times

During GMAT preparation most of us go through a strange phase where we tend to lose steam. It is a very crucial phase as if not properly handled it may severely undermine your confidence and spoil all the hard work which you have put into the preparation. Since it is a very common phenomenon, every year many GMAT takers fail to score according to their capabilities.
Here are a few tips which would help you to manage stress effectively and overcomes the GMAT test blues.
Know the Reason: There are many reasons for which any student may get restless. The most common reason which makes students nervous is that they become overtly conscious and anxious about their results. Also a lot of cramming in the last few days could make students tense. Many a times it is just the hype around the GMAT test which makes the students stressed. It is always advisable to take a couple of hours out to think the reason for feeling so low as this would also help you to formulate strategies to come out the phase.
Pace yourself:
If you cram too much in a single sitting then it is quite possible that you may be overwhelmed by the syllabus and eventually lose interest in the subjects. Some people frantically do practice test one after the other without giving enough time to assimilate all the concepts learned from the practice tests. So it becomes very important that you must pace your preparation keeping in mind your learning speed so that the GMAT preparation becomes neither too boring or nor overwhelming.
Set Goals:
A continuous learning schedule is clearly proven to be more effective than sporadic learning as many students preparing for the GMAT do. So you must set clear and achievable goals for yourself. For example you may decide to do 25-30 questions from math section per day and adhere to that goal so that your preparation is more streamlined and disciplined.
Beat the Nervousness Monster:
The biggest spoilsport in preparation of the GMAT test is nervousness. Many students complain that they do pretty well during the practice tests but falter during the actual GMAT exam. If you also feel that you are prone to nervousness during the exam then keep telling yourself, "There's nothing to worry about. I can do this! I will ace this test !"
Also you need to find out ways to relax before exams and practice those relaxation techniques before the practice tests. A few deep breaths can work wonders during exam especially if you are a bit nervous. Positive self motivation along with proper relaxation techniques will definitely help you to get the nervousness monster out and give your best shot during the actual GMAT test.
