People take vegetarian diet because of several reasons. For many of us, they prefer it for a better health and fitness, urge to reduce their weight, get into proper shape, normalize their blood pressure, blood sugar and high cholesterol and increase their energy level.

For some people, they take vegetarian diet because they think it's not morally and ethically right to eat animal products. Over centuries, man has developed a thought of being superior to other animals on the planet. Animals have always been used by man in their lives for many of their important issues like food, clothing, as a specimen for scientific testing, thus lowering their value on the planet and believing that they are here for our service and needs.

To change the thought of people regarding animals, an organization under the name of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has been established. This organization is against the idea of using animals for food, clothing and all specific needs of humans. Their special focus is over avoiding killing of animals to get food and fur.

They believe that animals like humans also have rights to consider what is best for them, despite being a prey to human's needs and desires. They are also worthy of freedom and has an equal right to live freely. Hence they are not some human possession, which humans can turn into their food, clothes etc.

Mankind is the most evolved society, but this doesn't mean humans are superior to all other creatures. There is a book entitled "When Elephants Weep" in which the author Jeffrey Mason beautifully explained animal's emotions and provided very persuasive proofs regarding it. So it's our responsibility to re-consider not only our position in this planet, but also other animals as well.
