An Inconvenient Snowstorm

An editorial in the Wall Street Journal really stood out to me today. Before I get to the article, let me just say that I'm always suspicious when Hollywood honors someone that is not an actor. So, when I saw Al Gore receive the Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth, I was a little skeptical, especially since the Midwest and Northeast were just pounded with a significant snowstorm.

I know that I'm not a scientist so I have no right using anecdotal and experiential knowledge to refute something so inconvenient. In fact, if we could eliminate common sense altogether, it would be such a logical place to live. Does anyone else find it odd that "every" scientist agrees with Global Warming?

It seems like scientists can't even agree whether a high protein diet is good or bad for you. In any case, it's rare for scientists to agree. In the early 1990s, I remember a scientist bucking the flow and saying that global warming was nothing more than normal fluctuations in the earth's temperature and has amazing controls to self-correct. When it comes to Space and Time, it's all speculation unless you've explored it firsthand. After all, someone driving for an hour through East Texas might guess that Texas is a state with huge trees. Travel several hours up to the panhandle, and you would suppose that the state is flat with no trees.

How can you determine what's a normal temperature with 100 years data when the earth is millions of years old? Another question, if man is causing global warming, who caused the ice age?

Follow the Money

It would seem tempting to agree with those who are funding your research and global warming is big business (or should I say big government). There is tremendous financial incentive and peer pressure to agree that global warming is a fact. Isn't it amazing that we (humans) can control the temperature of the world, but we can't divert a hurricane?

Oh yeah, back to the WSJ article, apparently the electric bill for Al Gore's home for 1 month is equivalent to the average electric bill for a full year. I'm not saying that global warming is fact or not or that humans are causing it or not. I'm just saying that it's an inconvenient truth that one of the main advocates to force you to use less energy is a significant consumer. To be fair, a heated swimming pool is a necessity (at least until global warming reaches Tennessee).
