Internet Affording More Freedom and Financial Boon for Ghostwriters

Ghostwriting is not a new concept. Freelance writers have been making full-time incomes at their craft since long before computers came into existence. Their work can be seen in magazines, read in newspapers, and found between the covers of novels.

But now, thanks to the Internet, freelance writers don't have to leave the comfort of their homes to find work. Freelance work is literally at their fingertips. No more calls to newspaper or magazine editors, no trips to the post office to mail out samples of their work.

They can sit at home, sipping coffee, in the comfort of a robe and favorite slippers, looking for and finding all the work they care to take on. Many freelancers prefer the almost instant payment the Internet affords them, rather than having to wait days, weeks or sometimes months before they realize the fruit of their labor.

Another advantage that's keeping more freelancers at home is the global market offered by the World Wide Web. It's great to land an article in a national publication. How much better for your writing to span the entire world, reaching readers that otherwise would never see it? This has huge appeal for many freelance writers.

The "free" in the word freelance stands for freedom, not free worker. Although a freelancer has more freedom than in-house writers, they're still limited by the hours kept by the people they need to speak to.

Not so with online writing. Online freelancers can do their writing at times of their own choosing, when their creativity is highest and other obligations are taken care of. This is true freedom.

Will the online market become so saturated that work will become hard to find? Not likely. With over a billion websites and new people logging on every day in record numbers, the Internet is growing exponentially.

All those webmasters need content for their sites and many of them also offer their customers a newsletter or ezine, which also needs quality content. Freelance writing online isn't just for the professionals.

It's a great way for anyone with a flair for words, or a thirst for knowledge to make extra income without having to take on a second job. If you're a working parent, you don't have to worry about hiring a sitter or spending more time away from your children. College students, even high school students, can make more from marketing their writing skills than taking a part-time job.

Freelance writers who would rather continue to work offline certainly can, and there's still a market for their talent. But by combining their offline efforts with time spent writing online, they can essentially give themselves a raise anytime they want one.

As the Internet continues to grow, and more people log on seeking information, the need for freelance writers will also continue to increase. Now, perhaps more than ever before, it's a great time to be a writer.
