In the midst of all the pandemonium that constitutes a wedding, the mother of the bride more often than not tends to forget or abnegate herself from the wedding treats. While it is understood for you to take the extra mile to ensure a perfect wedding for your darling daughter, you must also remember that as a mother of the bride, all eyes are going to be on you. Unless you want to end up looking frumpy and disheveled, it is important that you begin the hunt for your perfect mother of the bride dress well in advance.

Comfort

Ensure that the dress you pick is not only stunning but also comfortable. Remember that you will not remain seated all along the function as a guest, but will need to go around the reception area to welcome and entertain the actual guests. The last thing you would want is to trip and fall over your too-long-a gown in your own daughter's wedding. Neither should the gown be too tight that you can hardly flex a muscle, leave alone rejoice or reverberate in joy of your daughter's wedding.

Coordination

Your dress should co-ordinate with the other dresses that will be worn in the wedding, that is, not just the bridal gown but also the bridesmaid dresses. Exercise restraint while purchasing your gown as your choice must not clash or outshine your daughter's wedding gown. Also, it is not necessary for the bridesmaid dress and mother of the bride dress to appear identical. You may color-coordinate their dresses, such that they complement each other. This way not only can you maintain the uniformity and fluency of the wedding theme, but you can also be assured of standing out from the bridesmaids.

Elegance

Conventionally, it is the bride (and her bridesmaid to a limited extent) who carries an air of glamour and dazzles with her style, while the mother of the bride lends poise, grace and sophistication to the whole affair. Thus, while picking your dress, as a mother of the bride, ensure that you do not go over the top in the bling factor. You don't need to compete with your daughter to be the show stopper for the day. it is not necessary for the bridesmaid dress and mother of the bride dress to appear identical. Timing

Ideally, the bridesmaid dress and the mother of the bride dress must complement the wedding theme. Thus, it is advisable that you start your shopping once your daughter has decided her wedding gown and the wedding theme and color. However, do not wait till the end, as there must be adequate time gap for alterations, special additions or any other exigencies. Moreover, custom made gowns take a longer period to finish.
