That said, it is important to understand that having a protected territory dos not have anything to do with distance. It means that a franchisee must have a tested formula for deciding on successful demarcation between areas. For instance, you could always have a Macdonald's outlet at a reasonable distance, particularly if each is housed in a shopping complex of its own. But in case of a small business franchise based on service, large territories are a must.
Selection: Before you buy the franchise on sale, always check out all your options. Some people buy on recommendations from friends and family, others go through yellow pages.
