Communication Articles - HTC Desire or Nexus One?
Smartphone maker HTC has already managed to beat Apple's ubiquitous iPhone in performance and many other areas, meaning the question Android-converts now face is which model to choose - the HTC Desire or Google's Nexus One?
The decision is not as clear-cut as it may first appear, as both devices are manufactured by the Taiwanese company and are similar in a number of ways; not least in their sleek, slim-line appearance. The HTC Desire possesses a number of user-friendly features however, that are making it the handset of choice among Android devotees.
To start with the similarities, both the HTC Desire and the Nexus One are the same size, with identical 3.7 inch AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic LED) touch-screens that achieve a crystal clear resolution of 480x800 pixels that's ideal for streaming films and video clips. Both are equipped with the latest Android 2.1 Éclair operating system and both phones enjoy the advanced benefits of the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor, meaning users can manage a whole range of apps simultaneously without running into lag problems.
With those impressive specs, some users won't need to know the differences; but that would be to ignore the advantages of the HTC Desire over the Nexus One in terms of connectivity and improving the user experience.
One of the most noticeable differences between the handsets is the Desire's inclusion of a physical keypad, which could be a significant improvement over the touch-sensitive virtual keyboard, especially for those who will be using their smartphones to type documents. The phone is also equipped with an optical track pad for easier browsing; a more reliable alternative to the mechanical trackball of the Nexus One that could wear out faster.
The Desire's in-built camera is one of its stand-out features compared to other phones on the market, with five megapixel resolution and auto-focus meaning you can take professional quality photos on your phone and view them on the similarly high resolution screen, using the latest AMOLED technology.
In terms of connectivity, the Desire offers Bluetooth and 3G in addition to Wi-Fi, and comes into its own when exploring the social networking opportunities of the Desire software. Using its FriendStream widget, the HTC Desire makes it easier than ever before to manage your various social networks, status updates and photos online, making it the phone of choice for those who want to stay connected at all times.
