One of the most common but devastating skin problems is acne. Contrary to what many people believe, acne can happen to anyone and at any point in their lives. In other words, it's not an age or gender thing.

Acne is often associated with high hormone levels or hormonal imbalance. This is why it's not surprising to see teenagers usually developing acne. However, teens aren't the only ones who have to deal with this problem. In fact, a large percentage of adults also develop acne at one time or another in their adult lives.

Acne can cause social anxiety and depression for those suffering from it. This is why it's vital to treat this problem to avoid such unnecessary pain. Although there's no single best way to get rid of acne, here are a few pointers to help you fight off this annoying problem.

#1 Use Over the Counter Products: Today there are several soaps and moisturizers that you can buy over the counter at the local pharmacy or supermarket. Some products work better than others and it's usually a trial and error process before you can settle on one that works best for you. The only downside here is that these can be quite expensive.

#2 Antibiotics: Some patients react very well to antibiotics, however in most cases, the body becomes immune to these medicines making them ineffective. But the good news is that antibiotics work fast to clear acne, although you may have to bear mild side-effects depending on the type of medicine.

#3 Try the Pill: Studies have shown that Acne is closely related to high hormone levels. This is why it's not uncommon to see women suffer from acne around the time of their menstrual periods each month. Many women on birth control pills, to help balance hormone levels, have been pleasantly surprised when their acne clears up.

#4 Nutritional Supplements: One of the best ways to get rid of acne is to take nutritional supplements and Vitamin derivatives that target acne directly. The essential Vitamins A, C and E along with minerals like Iron help to increase blood flow, improve the quality of your skin and fight acne as well. You can probably find these at your local grocery store or health food store.

#5 See the Light: One of the latest treatments for acne involves exposure to intense light for short sessions. These sessions are usually conducted over a period of four weeks. Many patients have shown great progress under this form of treatment as compared to other methods and medicines.

By trying some of the above solutions, and washing and moisturizing your skin regularly, your acne will eventually go away. So if you have it now, don't worry. Just keep the above methods in mind and try any one or more that you feel will do the job for you and enjoy an acne free life!
