If Japan has its own D1 Grand Prix, then The United States has Formula D too.

Formula Drift is an exciting avenue for North American drifting professionals to showcase their skills against other top drifters around the world. Established in Japan, this drifting activity evolved into a global competitive sport that measures a racer's vehicle control and driving skill. Being North America's first official series, Formula Drift has continued to make motor sport racing more competitive and exciting for car enthusiasts and fans from different walks of life.

Formula Drift motor sport racing involves great skill and high power where racers maneuver cars into properly executed and well controlled slides sideways at full speeds through a marked course. Now in its fourth season, Formula Drift has over sixty professional racers competing in this year's seven competitions.

Judging is based on primarily on style and execution, rather than who gets to the finish line the fastest. Drifting has continued to please more crowds, even attracting more and is always being compared to the free forms of motocross and skateboarding.

Formula Drift, as well as its racers, also play an important role as ambassadors of drifting, wherein they bring exhibitions to mainstream or traditional motor sports events and activities throughout the country including the American Le Mans, NASCAR Busch North & Featherlite Southwest, USAC, SPEED World Challenge and many more. Moreover, Formula Drift has clinched a partnership with the Champ Car World Series wherein demonstration events are held at Champ Car race weekends mostly at the Long Beach Grand Prix. This year, Formula Drift has held five demonstration events as well as the first Formula Drift Team Drift Championship. Five events comprise the inauguration of the Team Drift Championship, namely the Long Beach Grand Prix (April); Portland International Raceway and Grand Prix of Cleveland (June); San Jose Grand Prix (July) and the Grand Prix Arizona coming in November.

Formula Drift has the most diverse vehicle models and driver background than any other drifting league there is in the world. Moreover, it has the world's largest number of tire manufacturers as well. These companies also battle it out to gain tire supremacy wherein they compete for bragging rights and points. Alongside driver wins, tire manufacturers also score points and use their bragging rights for their marketing and advertising campaigns. Among Formula Drift's major tire manufacturers are BF Goodrich, Bridgestone, Cooper, Falken, Hankook, Maxxis, Nitto and Toyo.
