Corioliss vs. T3 Tourmaline - Which Is The Best Wet To Dry Flat Iron?

Wet to dry flat irons are fast becoming the most popular type. Not having to first blow-dry your hair before you straighten it saves time and is a lot less bothersome. Both Corioliss and T3 make wet to dry hair straighteners, but is either one better than the other?

We'll be comparing the T3 Tourmaline 1.75" Wet to Dry flat iron with that of the Corioliss - you can also get a T3 Tourmaline with 1" plates but Corioliss only ship with 1.75" plates.

Both irons use tourmaline plates and have ceramic Far Infrared heating systems. They also have other similarities. First off, the Corioliss looks very much like the T3. Both have vents on the outside of the tongs to allow steam and excess water to escape. The on/off switch and temperature controls are located in the same position.

Let's look at the differences.

Price

The Corioliss Wet to Dry is more expensive than that of the T3 Tourmaline - about 10 - 15 dollars at time of writing. A saving of a few dollars might be a consideration to some.

Heat-up time

Both heat up in seconds and both tell you when the plates have reached their optimal temperature. In a series of, by no means exhaustive, tests the Corioliss seemed to heat up a little faster than the T3, but a saving of a second or two isn't a very big difference. The maximum temperature of the T3 flat iron is 410 F. The maximum temperature setting of the Corioliss is a little higher at 430 F. Both irons have variable temperature control so you can set the heat to be just right for your hair. Finally, both are very good at keeping the temperature constant.

Power Cord

The power cord is an important consideration. Using a hair straightener can be awkward, especially when one is straightening at the back. Therefore the cord should be flexible and long enough to reach behind. Both straighteners come with swivel cords. The T3 beats the Corioliss in terms of length; the Corioliss hair straightener comes with a 7 ft cord but you get an extra 2 feet with the T3 flat iron.

Weight

Another important consideration; what seems like a lightweight appliance at first can seem downright heavy when you've been using it for 30 minutes. The T3 hair straightener weighs 1.33 lbs but the Corioliss beats it in this department as it weighs in at only 0.85 lbs.

Hair Straightening

Both products, if used correctly, give pretty much the same results, which is kind of what you'd expect when both irons look almost identical, use the same tourmaline plates, have similar, variable heat settings and plate widths. On this basis you'd probably be thinking: save myself 10 bucks and buy the T3. But wait a second.

On the Folica website they have posted a notice about the T3 Tourmaline: "Please be advised that many of our customers reported that they had difficulties obtaining warranty service for this product."

Warranty is a very important consideration when buying any appliance. Therefore, the Corioliss Wet to Dry flat iron is probably going to be a better, a probably safer buy, than the T3 Tourmaline flat iron.
