It won't take long after you announce your engagement for you to realize how much is involved in wedding planning. There are plenty of tools available to assist you, it is up to you to consider your options and decide what will work best for you. You may find that your assistance may come in the form of a $30 "How To" book, or a $125 computer software package that outlines the best way to plan your wedding, or you may have already determined that you want to spend whatever it takes to hire a professional wedding planner.

Before committing yourself to a wedding planner or any other option you really must put together your budget so you know what funds are available for you to spend on your wedding. Wedding costs can spiral out of control quickly, so you must have an idea before you start spending how much you can allocate to the various aspects of your wedding.

Wedding planners are professionals and they will take care of every single detail of your wedding. They will make certain that decisions are made in a timely manner. They know the ins and outs of weddings and have worked with photographers, caterers and florists. They know what halls are available for receptions and what it will take to decorate them. They have done this many times before. Keep in mind that you will still have many many decisions to make. It is your wedding and you have ultimate control. The wedding planner will help guide you through the process, keeping everything on track and making certain that no small detail is overlooked. As you may guess, this does come with a price tag.

You may feel that you are up to the challenge of planning your own wedding, and you really are not comfortable handing off this responsibility to a complete stranger, even if they are a professional. Planning the wedding yourself does not mean that you must take care of every minute detail yourself. You must be able to delegate, and you must not be shy about asking others for assistance. Mothers (of both the bride and groom), relatives and friends are probably just waiting for you to ask for their help. People actually take it as a complement to be asked to help in something as special as a wedding. Also remember that your fiance is there and can help with many of the tasks. You will find that just having someone run errands for you is a big time saver.

Whatever you do, don't let the planning overwhelm you. When the day of your wedding rolls around, you don't want to be at the point that you just want this day over with. At any point in the planning process if you begin to feel that it is just too much for you, enlist the help of a professional. If the planning of your wedding and reception has ceased to be fun, that's a pretty good indicator that it is time for some assistance.
