You know that you're business has to have a website to be competitive in today's marketplace. But in order for your website to be successful, you need highly qualified traffic, and you need links to get it. Inbound links are of extreme importance for two main reasons. First of all, having a link to your website from another site that is related to your area of business will drive traffic to your website. Second, search engine's love to see related links to your website, which will in turn improve your search engine rank and get your website more qualified traffic.

Quality Links, Not Quantity

How do you know what will be a good link to your website and what won't be? Most importantly you want the links to relate to your area of business. Pure number of links alone will not do any good unless the links are related to your business. Also, be sure to include keywords and phrases within the links. Keywords are words related to your business that people might perform a search for in a search engine when looking for you. Just one or two links from an industry leader will improve your traffic much better than hundreds of links from unrelated websites. Not only do search engines appreciate this kind of linkage, but so do your visitors. After all, that is who this website is for anyway, right? So help them out and give them quality links to your website from other sites related to your business and topics.

Getting Links

Alright, so you know that you need quality links to drive qualified traffic to your website. But how do you go about getting these links to your website? It is possible for your website to be found and linked to just because your site has great content. The more help your website is to the industry, the more people will want to see it, and the more it will get linked to from other sites.

Another way to get inbound links to your website is simply to ask for them. Find industry leaders and/or websites that are showing up in the top ranking positions in the search engine results pages. Once you've done that ask the sites for a link to your site. If by chance they agree they will probably want a link to their site from yours as well. Also, check out what sites have already been linked to from an industry leader and ask them for links as well.

When asking for links, keep it friendly, personal, and explain the benefits of linking to your site. Whoever you are asking for a link from, make them feel as though they are the only company you are asking this favor of.

Don't overlook getting inbound links to your website in your search optimization campaign. Links are one of the most important factors a search engine spider looks for when evaluating your website and its content. Start link-building today!
