So there I was, walking into the first Jewish synagogue that I have ever walked into. They called themselves Hebrew messianic Jews who kept the commandments of God.

As I was walking in, I heard the sound of heavy drums beating and passionate singing compelling me to move on in further.

As the singing commenced, and the drums were continually pounded I noticed a man get up from his seat and head over to where a very unique looking instrument was mounted. The man then lifted the instrument off of the mount and then began to blow into it.

The sound that came out of the instrument, was one that I had never heard before but I was able to identity it. It sounded like a trumpet with a hollow sound, but it was a shofar.

Mentioned various times in the bible and torah, the shofar is one of the most precious musical instruments in Judiasm.

The shofar's roots extend as far back as the days of the ancient prophet Moses , when it was played from Mount Sinai , while the Hebrews were in the wilderness.

The shofar's main role was to announce special happenings or occasions. For example ,the blowing of the shofar would announce a new year or a war. Other uses of the shofar was for various religions services or to be apart of music.

Over the years, the shofar has used in many other ways but the instrument has always stayed incredibly significant in judiaism.

The shofar is usually connected with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur , but is a more than fitting gift for the Passover festival. There are many websites that sell shofar in many different sizes and styles which makes it possible for one to purchase a shofar for religious purposes or simply for decoration.
