Anyone Can Tell You Why It Won't Work; Find Out Why It Will

If you wanted to have the tallest building in your town, there are two basic ways of approaching your goal; you can either measure the tallest building in town, and then set out to build one taller, or, you can tear down all of the other buildings, and whatever you build, regardless of the its height, will be the tallest one in town.

Clearly, tearing all of the other buildings down will require far more time and effort than simply building one that's taller than any of the others, but isn't that a good metaphor of what so many people do on a daily basis?

What would happen, if every time you started think about, or tell someone else why something would not work….you STOPPED…..and then immediately asked the question "What are two good reasons why it WILL work?

Better yet, you might want to use a method that Connirae Andreas calls reversing presuppositions. Let's say you were thinking about retiring and starting a flower shop, and each time you thought about it, you said something like, " But I really don't have any experience with running a flower shop, so that wouldn't work!"

Using Connirae's method, you would take the reason you had used to justify why it would not work, and turn it into a reason why it would.

Simply ask "How might the fact that I don't have any experience running a flower shop, actually be a reason why it would work?"

Because this question is so much different form the kind most people are used to asking, it will feel a bit strange initially, but if you hang with it, you'll be amazed to find that your brain will actually begin supplying reasons, or answers to this question.

You might get an answer like "well, since you don't know anything about it, that means you don't have any of the limited thinking or bad habits that many florists or flower shop owners have acquired. Anything you need to know, you can learn. You won't have to try and undo a bunch of things that have been holding your flower shop back, like so many people would have to do if they wanted to take their shop to the next level. In this case, your ignorance is your best friend."

So many times in life, it comes down to the kind of questions that we ask; if we ask good questions we get good answers. Ask great questions, and get great answers. Far too may people have mastered the art of asking horrible questions, and as a result…..you guessed it.

So tell me, why WILL your idea work? Anyone can tell you why it won't, break away from the norm, and discover why it will.
