As people create blogs, there is one choice they often have to face. Should they allow do follow links in the posts or not? Before discussing this topic fully, it's important that we define do follow links. A do follow link is a link in which Google or other search engines will identify the link and crawl the site that is pointed to, thereby giving it value. Many blog services, such as WordPress, disable this feature by default as it can often lead to a higher frequency of spam. However, can this feature be beneficial?

For blog owners, allowing do follow links can be a huge benefit. First, it helps drive traffic to your site. By making your blog do follow, more visitors will come and partake in discussion as they know that their sites will be rewarded with links that Google crawls. What's more, many sites build lists of blogs that feature do follow linking, thereby generating further backlinks for their own blog.

For visitors, it's great to find blogs that are do follow. By enabling do follow, the posters are being rewarded for their activity and so, will be inclined to be more active. In addition, they are able to build links to their own site and attract like minded visitors who are interested in the same material. As such, enabling do follow links on your blog is a benefit for everyone involved. While the decision may result in more spam, careful regulation of these "junk" posts will ensure an active site that still looks clean and presentable.
