The last of the 5 free ways to drive traffic to your site is to use Twitter.

Twitter is an amazing tool for building relationships and community. As Seth Godin would say, building a Tribe. (If you have not read his book, "Tribe", you owe it to yourself to do so.)

You can sign up for Twitter at http://twitter.com. Once you sign up you will choose a user name. Make it something that brands you and your business.

Once that is done you are ready to start connecting with people. The best place to start is in your email address book. Check and see if anyone is on Twitter and begin to follow them.

Another way is to use Twellow. This is a directory that you can go to and type in a subject and other people who have interest in those areas will come up. You can follow them as well. Once you begin to follow others they will begin to follow you.

Another tool is TwitPic. With this you can upload pictures and post them with a link in your tweets.

As you begin to use Twitter you are going to have people tell you that you can get 1000 followers overnight. Be careful about that. What begins to happen is people use programs to just get a ton of followers and then if someone doesn't follow them back they drop them. They are not concerned about relationship - but about numbers.

One of my mentors, Justin Brooke, said that it's like the neighborhood BBQ. Everyone is hanging out, talking and having a good time with each other. A new guy comes in and the first thing he starts talking about is himself and that is all he talks about. What happens to that guy? He's left out in the cold. This is what many do on Twitter. It's all about them.

What you should do is contribute to the community. Give good content and good information. Build people up. Then when it comes time to speak about your product or your thing, people will listen.

Simply remember, it's about building a Tribe, a following.
