Is Asthma Merchandise A Profitable eBay Niche
The starting place for assessing profitability is always demand and supply. The classic thumbs up for a niche - the holy grail that all marketers seek - is:
* High demand
* Low competition
Beginning with demand, we find that in the last month on Google, there were 1,308 searches per day, or 477,420 per year, for the keyword "asthma".
Secondary keywords also displayed large numbers of searches - and thus high demand:
* asthma symptoms: 201 per day or 73,365 per year
* asthma treatment: 153 per day or 55,845 per year
* ashma attack: 85 per day or 31,025 per year
* asthma signs and symptoms: 71 per day or 25,915 per year
Clearly, there is strong demand for information and products about asthma. eBay parallels the Internet in general, therefore, we can be quite certain that demand is strong on the famous auction site for asthma-related keywords.
However, the competition on the Net is quite dismaying. The main keyword "asthma" shows a horrifying 44,900,000 competitors and our other keyword phrases aren't much better:
asthma treatment: 12,900,000 competitors
asthma symptoms: 3,770,000 competitors
ashma attack: 1,460,000 competitors
asthma signs and symptoms: 1,360,000 competitors
Demand on eBay, though, is an entirely different story. We find that there are only a paltry 214 items on eBay today! The range of products includes items such as:
1. Asthma nebulizers: there were 1,590,000 searches on the Net last month for "nebulizers" oand only 437 items for sale on eBay that match this keyword term. But those numbers are deceiving because there are alternate uses for nebulizers besides as an aid to asthma control. So by investigating the keyword phrase "asthma nebulizer" we find 19 searches per day, or 6,935 per year - yet only seven such products currently for sale on eBay. This is an exciting find!
2. Amazon shows large numbers of asthma books in their database, yet there are only a total of 14 asthma books currently for sale on eBay.
3. A "peak flow meter" is a very common asthma tool. On Google, there are 30 searches per day or 10,950 searches per year, with 1,200,000 competitors. Yet on eBay, we find only one meter listed today.
So what do these numbers mean? They mean that asthma is a very under-exploited, non-competitive niche on eBay, exactly the kind that all marketers are seeking.
Does this mean that if you begin selling asthma-related items on eBay you are certain to succeed? Of course not. But it does indicate that based on preliminary research, this has the potential to be a very lucrative niche. There are no guarantees in Internet marketing, but this one is green lights all the way.
