There are a lot of myths and mysteries about what it really takes to succeed with your own pet photography business. However it is really a lot easier and simpler than what most people believe. Earning a six-figure income in this business can be done by working just weekends alone. This article will explain what you do and do not need to succeed as a professional pet photographer.

You do not have to already be a pro photographer to take really cute pictures. You just need to know a handful of simple, fast and easy poses that will work for most any size dog or cat. Armed with a few simple props and a half-dozen poses you can easily shoot 24 to 36 exposures of your subject in 20 to 30 minutes time.

You don't need a lot of expensive photography gear to become a professional pet photographer. All you really need to get started is a good 35mm film or digital camera with a decent portrait lens and at least one strong strobe light along with a simple solid color back ground. Even a bed sheet can do.

The trick to becoming a top notch pet photographer is to the practice the 3 P's of patience, practice and plenty of pictures. The more you practice your art and the more pictures you take the better you will become. Patience in this business is truly golden. You will need it especially when working with young children and pets because quite often they both have very short attention spans and often won't hold still for very long. However a squeaky toy or treat can go a long way with capturing a pets attention long enough for you to squeeze off a few shots.

Setting up joint ventures with pet groomers and pet stores alone can give you all the business you can handle. A good pet groomer can easily book you with 20 to 50 pet photography sessions on a weekend. By showing your customers pre printed portrait packages priced between $159 to $300 you can easily average a $100 profit on each package. Shooting, showing and selling just 25 packages per weekend is all it takes to earn a six-figure income photographing pets!

So there you have it. You just need lot's of patience and practice setting up and taking pet portraits using a minimum of equipment and props and it won't be long before you become better at your craft and learn the best ways to approach animal groomers and pet stores with an irresistible joint venture proposition. Even without doing a single joint venture with pet stores or groomers you can still earn a great income by offering to shoot your portraits in the comfort and privacy of your client's home. You can even keep your day job and still earn a fantastic second income by shooting one or two portrait sessions per evening!
