Tunisia is located in North Africa, it is the northernmost country on the African continent and is situated on the Atlas mountain range. About 40% of the country is made up of the Sahara desert, but much of the remainder is very fertile land and the country has a 1300 kilometre long coastline. Holidays in Tunisia offer a good variety of opportunities for any visitor from relaxing on the beautiful soft sandy beaches, scuba diving off the Mediterranean coast, journeying across the vast sands of the Sahara and exploring ancient ruins.

This is a country with a lot choice, and some incredible scenery. To the north lie great mountains with many rivers winding through them. Fantastic gorges, waterfalls and lakes are hidden here. To the south the Sahara Desert rules, with it's vast sand dunes that stretch further than you can imagine broken by beautiful oases of colour and beauty.

Tunis is the Capital of Tunisia and it lies in a sheltered area on the northern coast. It's wide boulevards and shopping malls show off it's French colonial influence and it is one of the most sophisticated of the Arab capitals. Here you can see traditional Berber carpets and have a go at bartering for one if you choose. The medina at the centre of the city is a dense mass of alleys and covered passageways where you will find your senses filled with intense scents and colours and activity. Many goods can be bought here from leather items and fine filigree souvenirs and there are many small craft shops selling traditional wares. On the beach fronts there are modern hotel complexes and beautiful unspoilt golden beaches looking out over turquoise seas.

There is something for every holiday maker here, with large hotel complexes where everything is laid on for you, to the smaller more intimate settings of family run hotels where you are made to feel at home and encouraged to immerse yourself in the social activities of the area from belly dancing to camel rides. Many people opt for longer holidays in this wonderful location because there is so much to do here that you can easily fill two, three or even more weeks with activity and relaxation.

For people who want to experience the history of the place, a visit to El Diem where there is a Roman Colosseum makes a memorable trip. There is also the Ksour in the south of the country, these hilltop granaries are moulded from mud and look as if they were built by aliens. It's not really a wonder that various scenes from Star Wars were filmed here. All over Tunisia there are Hammans or Turkish baths where you can steam yourself with the locals. Many of the hot springs that occur naturally here have been used for this since Roman times. For people of a more sporting nature, there are many golf courses of excellent standing here, from Port el Kantaoui near Sousse to Carthage at Tunis. There are also the coral beds and incredible sea life that can be seen off the coast by scuba diving. The waters here are very clear making this a great place to give this a go.
