Freelance Home Writers - The First Two Critical Steps

The most important thing for freelance home writers when they are starting out is getting a solid foundation, and a clear vision of where you want to go. If you really don't know where you are going, it will take a lot longer to achieve the results you are looking for.

When starting as a freelancer, you need to decide what you want out of it. Do you just want a bit of extra money to fund college tuition? Do you have bill pressure, and need a few extra hundred dollars a week? Do you want to work from home and earn your entire income though writing articles?

It depends on your personal circumstances, but usually people fall into one of these categories. The great thing about writing articles, is you can make as much or little as you want, simply by how much time you put into it.

For anyone starting out as a freelance home writer, there are two main things you need to look at.

1. Are you starting off with the correct training? - Is the base you are working from as good as it could be? Many people get started and follow the first piece of advice they read, maybe start submitting their article to some article directories, without really having a full understanding on how they should be making their money.

2. Do you have the discipline and drive to be a writer? - Because freelance writers usually write from home, you have the freedom to choose your own hours. This can be very bad for you if you don't have the correct vision and discipline. Too many talented writers have failed because they lacked the discipline to stay focused on the task at hand.

The training step is easy to fix. The best way to get started there is to join a freelance home writers website, and follow the training they have. This covers writing itself, showing you how to style your writing correctly to produce high quality content. It also covers the mechanical steps you need to take to get the most out of your writing. This is important, because you will want to spend as much of your time possible actually writing content. This is the thing which will make you money, not any of the other things you can easily find yourself doing.

The motivation you have is a more difficult one to address, if you are not in the zone. You have to honestly ask yourself what you want to be doing, and where you want to end up. If freelance writing is what you really want to do, then it is up to you to find the motivation you need to be consistent. The difference between a writer who gets by, and one who is very successful, is 2%.

Most writers will write and spend their day about 98% the same. The difference which will take you to the top is an extra 2% which other people don't have.

There are many resources available on self motivation, it is very important to make sure you have what it takes before committing yourself fully to freelance home writing.
