Your Business Site is Not Getting to First Page of Search Engines? No Worries

Surely, you will be surprised that I am saying things like that. Yes, it is better for you to have your site on page one when someone searches for those keywords or keyphrases. That way, you will get more traffic right? But although you very likely do get more traffic, but how many will convert? How many of these "hordes" will come and buy your products or your services?

Again, please understand that I am not saying that it isn't good for your business site to be on the first page of the search results for your important keywords. It is definitely extremely beneficial for your site. What I am saying is that if your site appears in page three or four, you really don't need to worry that much. Why? Because nowadays when internet savvy searchers are searching for this or that product on the web, they will search quite intensively. They will try to get as much information as they can on it. Having your site appear on later pages of search results means that this group of visitors (the very interested group) will still visit your site. And best of all, it means that there is more of a chance that this group will convert (buy your product/service) because they are more intent on getting the best deal. Having 50 interested visitors can be just as beneficial as having 500 casual visitors, majority of whom may not have any interest in actually purchasing your product. So don't fret when your site isn't number one.

There are a lot of marketing hype on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) where they tell you that you are losing a huge percentage of visitors if your site is not displayed as the Number one result. And people usually don't search beyond page one. Do you believe them? It is up to you, but how many people you know, when they are serious about something, only stop at the first site that comes up in the search results? It doesn't make sense for the searcher to do so. And it is these "serious" visitors which usually convert for you. Sure, the first results have more visibility and exposure, but it's the end result that count. The end result is whether that visitor purchase your products or services. So don't succumb to hype and marketing and waste your money and effort.

What I feel is that you only need to worry when your site appears on page ten or later for your keywords. This is when the searches become less relevant and these people less likely to click on your link. Worse, by the time they reach that page, they have become search-wary and link-blind and may not even notice your site. You will need to do more optimization on your sites to help improve your rankings. And please, always see beyond the hype.
