Anything is Possible

Becoming a Stay At Home Dad made me see that all things are possible. I look back to when I was working full time for a corporation, and back then I just couldn't have seen myself being this successful as an entrepreneur and making better money while working fewer hours. If there is one thing I want to share with the world it's that anything is possible. I'm living proof. You hear people tell you that if it's too good to be true, it probably is. When you hear things like that it holds you back. Now that I look back, I realize that one statement held me back for a while on a subconscious level. It made me think twice about starting a business. I wasn't sure that I could make enough money to let me be a stay at home dad.

Somehow I managed to break through the barrier of letting those negative words hold me back. We humans are very quick to put obstacles in our own path that prevent us from trying things. We say things to ourselves, and to each other that hold us back. Things like "oh that'll never work," or "I can't take the chance." Luckily some of us do take the chance and make it work or we would never make any progress in the world, in society and in our own lives. I used to think that becoming a stay a home dad, fully self-supporting, was the impossible dream. But I went for it anyway. And you can too.

Next time you hear someone say those words, stop and rethink. GPS? That could never happen. Turn by turn navigation systems so you never get lost again? Isn't that too good to be true? Instant light at the flick of a switch so you never have to depend on the dangerous open flame of a candle or oil lamp? Isn't that too good to be true? When something is too good to be true, whether it is a question of inventing a light bulb, or making a major lifestyle change, like becoming a stay at home dad, if it's too good to be true, that means it's probably worth pursuing. That's why inventors and scientists become so famous. Having courage to take chances and figure out how to make the impossible happen doesn't just change things for you. It changes things for everyone!

Things that seemed impossible years ago are now common things in our life. Cars, airplanes, computers... the list is endless. Every generation can boast about advances that changed life for the next generation. But we don't have to depend on famous scientists or inventors to make sweeping life changes. Every one of us has it in him to contribute to the lifestyle of the next generation. How do you want your son or daughter to remember you? Toiling away, doing the daily grind? Being the absent workaholic father? I don't. I want my daughter to remember me taking her places. Spending time with her. Being her stay at home dad.
