Can I Improve My IQ

Intelligence Quotient (IQ) can be measured by means of different tests. A person's IQ definitely changes with age but stabilizes during adolescence. Most IQ tests consist of several parts, including two-dimensional geometry, three-dimensional rotations, mathematical or numerical abilities, verbal abilities, concentration, memory and others. They are designed to test general intelligence therefore the tasks vary. Someone who is better in spatial geometry may have weaker verbal skills. The number of tasks may vary between 30 and 60. Once the test is solved it has to be adjusted according to age and the final result is then established.

Can a person's IQ be changed? Are we able to influence our own intelligence? Research has shown that the IQ of an individual is stable over his or hers lifetime unless some brain damage occurs. But is there a way to improve your result? I believe that a person can work to improve certain skills. For example, it is possible to improve one's memory. There are many courses available that are aimed at learning techniques for remembering hundreds of elements. People who were not able to remember dates or a shopping list after completing such courses are able to remember cards in a deck randomly put. During some of these courses you may also learn to read faster. These techniques are available to everyone and are based mainly on association.

An excellent way to improve verbal skills is to solve crossword puzzles or play games such as scrabble. These can significantly expand one's vocabulary. There are many other mind-training games we can use and most of them, like creating new associations, may be done while commuting to work or just by going shopping.

Another way to improve your IQ is to "train your brain". Years of research has shown that brainwaves not only provide insight into an individual's mind and body, but they can be stimulated to actually change that person's current state. The benefits of brainwave entrainment, the process of enhancing your normal brainwave state, has been known to many scientists and doctors for years.

One must not forget that a healthy mind needs a health body. Staying fit improves the flow of oxygen in the human body and this has a tremendous influence on the brain's performance.

The best drink for our brain is pure water. Water helps the synapses to transmit information. Research has shown that there are certain chemical substances such as N-acetylaspartate (NAA) or chlorine that affect the performance of the brain. In the future scientists may be able to help us boost our IQ with dietary supplements. Tests conducted with the usage of various macro and micro-elements that are present in our diet may influence the performance of our body and brain.

For now, the only proven solution in IQ enhancement is learning as much as we can and to do something for the brain everyday. This may be a crossword puzzle, reading, and exercises to improve our memory. Are they 100% sure methods? Time will tell but I believe they're worth the effort.
