An old PC usually runs more slowly. This is because the hard drive is more cluttered and there are more corrupt files, rather than the hardware wearing out. It then becomes nesessary to repair and tidy the files and links stored on the PC. The computer will then run faster and should also last longer before the hardware fails because it is not being physically worked so hard.

A good registry cleaning software package should offer two main advantages. The ability to save time and money. Replacing a PC or even reloading the sofware can take days. Naturally it saves a lot of money if you can still get enough performance from the same hardware and software.

The files you have on your PC are an investment. You may want to get your system back up and running just so you can transfer the latest updates to your files to the new computer. Even if you do end up buying a new PC, worst case, your registry cleaner can still tidy up your hard drive, so you may be able to transfer it to the new system as a backup or maybe run it as an external drive through a USB port, giving you the ability to milk those files until you have squeezed them dry.

Look for a registry cleaner with a wide range of capabilities. There are many potential problems with your PC that it should be able to handle. These include invalid startup icons, invalid links, ActiveX and DLL errors and many more. All can be removed easily yet can make your computer slower and prone to crash.

If you do decide to buy a new PC, that will also benefit from a registry cleanup every now and then as well. However, for a few dollars you may be able to fix your PC problems in minutes, rather than days and better still, you may be able to avoid problems arising in the first place.

It is important that the vendor offer plenty of testimonials. They should give specific details of problems solved and look convincing. You should be able to ask the vendor questions directly via contact details on the website and there should be an FAQ page. Is there also after sales support and is the software updated regularly?

Make sure the software is compatible with your system. Have you got enough RAM and disk space and is your microprocessor covered? Some registry cleaners do not work with a Mac or Linux based PC. Make sure it works with your operating system.

The vendor may offer a free trial. If so diagnose your PC and see what it can do for you. Is it user friendly. How many errors does it find on your computer? You may be in for a surprise when you find out how much is wrong and how cheap it is to fix. It may be a very cost effective solution to your computer problems.
