In this time of uncertainty, as pet owners we must educate ourselves on the quality of food and the ingredients that make up that food. Manufacturers must realize that as consumers we expect premium and nothing less for our pets.

A healthy diet along with daily exercise is ultimately what will shape your dog's health and longevity. An all-natural dog food may cost more but is worth its weight in gold. Research the different pet food manufacturers and take a close look at the pet food ingredients that make up their products. Avoid dog foods that contain known cancer causing preservatives such as BHT and BHA. Other pet food ingredients to avoid would be dyes, preservatives, corn, soy, wheat-gluten, meat by-products and other fillers.

Dog's immune systems need certain vitamins and minerals to maintain good health. A strong immune system can defend against sickness and disease while eliminating unwanted pollutants within the body. An unhealthy immune system cannot always defend the body against illness or infection. A poor quality of food is often linked to dog skin problems and reoccurring ear infections. A wholesome and healthy dog food will maintain your dog's skin and coat keeping it soft and shiny at all times.

Dog owners are now forced to take action for themselves and for their beloved four legged friends by actually reading the pet food ingredients listed and learning what they are. For many years there was a dog food plant located on the other side of the mountain from where we live. When they were actually manufacturing the food, the stench was so awful that we would have to close our windows in the summertime.

Remember the old saying "don't judge a book by its cover", well don't judge your dog's food by the packaging either. Nice packaging is simply marketing 101, it's the label on the back that tell's all.
