Whether you are entering your teenage years or you're a little longer in the tooth, you can find yourself having to face the terribly distressing affliction known as acne. While there are many causes for acne and identifying each one is more than a single article can do, identifying a few of the major causes can help you move a step closer to having clear, healthy and glowing skin.

Hair - A little known fact about acne prevention that few are aware of, is that proper acne skin care involves clean hair - especially if the hair is shoulder length, around the face. The culprit is the natural oils in your hair. If the oils get on the skin they can become one of the factors that cause acne. As a result, it becomes imperative that you keep your hair clean by using a mild shampoo on a daily basis.

Diet and Nutrition - One of the major acne culprits is the consumption of an oily and unhealthy diet that people of all ages follow. Hamburgers and ice cream, excessive chocolate and overly processed foods all contribute to an unbalanced diet and only hinder you goal of glowing, healthy skin. The skin will only be healthy if you drink plenty of water (avoid pop at all costs), green leafy vegetables, fruits and proper trace minerals. Iodine and magnesium, which most people are deficient in, are great supplements to add to your diet. Iodoral is a great Iodine supplement and when looking for magnesium you need to avoid the cheap supplements that contain magnesium oxide.

Try to Avoid Pinching, Rubbing or Picking Your Acne - A good ground rule of acne skin care is to never irritate it. If you need to "pop" a pimple, do it with care or go to a dermatologist or perhaps a qualified beauty salon where you can have your pimples "popped" with the help of steaming and deep cleaning of the pores. Improper pimple "popping" can result in infection, even scarring.

Never Cover Acne with Make-Up or Cosmetics - The golden rule of acne skin care says to abstain from putting any makeup on the face when it's covered with acne. Clearly, the reason behind this is because it aggravates the pimples and it can cause more harm than good and let's face it, if you've got acne covering it with make-up doesn't hide it anyway. At the most, you could use some under-eye cream at night before you go to bed but other than that it's a serious no-no.

Follow the above tips and you can fight and win the war against acne and enjoy the glowing skin you were born with.
